Application of Wireless Charging Technology for Electric Vehicles in the Next Two Years
According to foreign media reports, in order to further promote the development of electric vehicles, plug-in vehicles, hybrid electric vehicles and battery charging technology, automobile manufacturers are seeking cooperation to develop global fast charging stations. Among them, Qualcomm, the leading company of wireless charging technology, has revealed that in the next two years, wireless charging technology for electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles will be widely applied. Graeme Davison, vice president of business development and marketing at Qualcomm, said that in 18 to 24 months, wireless charging technology for electric vehicles will enter the market.
The wireless charging technology for automobiles will be similar to that for mobile phones. Wireless charging technology uses high frequency magnetic field to transmit magnetic pulse from gasket to receiver to charge mobile phone. When this technology is applied to automobiles, they will use charging pads on the ground to transmit high-frequency magnetic fields. The car will be equipped with a receiver. When the car is parked on the charging pad, the magnetic pulse will be converted into electricity, and the car will be charged. The wireless charging pad will be installed on the road, and the electric vehicle can charge at any time.
Davidson also said that in the early stages, wireless charging technology for electric vehicles could be expensive. It is expected that this technology will be more cost-effective over time and eventually cost the same as today's plug-in charging technology.
BMW, a German automaker, has implemented this technology on its 530e iPerformance model. Wireless charging will make electric vehicles more convenient by quickly tracking the charging process and abandoning the plug-in charging interface.
